Like most people, I tried to operate the spare tire lock for the first time in a few years for maintenance on the differential. I couldn't even get the key past the little kicker...Once you have let down the brace/tire, there will be a plastic retainer in the center of the wheel. Turn this counter-clockwise to loosen it and take it completely off remembering how it came off. Then just lift the wheel off of the brace being careful of the thread rod sticking through the center of the wheel.
