Tek Rifle is the best weapon to use against it imo.That can take down rock golems too but it takes a few minutes and leaves them with about 1/3rd health so it's a little riskier. extrapolate that up though and you'll have what you need. If you want to kill a golem, aim for anything you want, but not the head : it will take less damage, but its torpor will rise. The Lava Elemental cannot be tamed. This is why aiming for its head will be a waste of time.
