You can hear the sound being made as if the water is rising and falling but it does not actually happen. The water works fine on the first bit. If you tend to be horribly slow and get stuck in terrain a lot, then yes, you will need 2 players. There is one single mechanism you will need to activate. Pretty much the same in every room, just located on different walls. (Throwing weapon, or better a bow will be useful) I did it in around 15min.
