The number is 97987 indicating a 1969 manufacture date. But I am told that an 'N' in the SN means it is a 1978 year model. The N is below the SN, not in line with it. And, the front and rear sight are nickel. There are no letters parallel to the serial number, but there is an 'N' below the SN. Maybe the N and O stamp here represent something else. The commercial National Match pistols were Colt Government Models and were produced in the Government Model serial number range between C162000 and C215083. The earliest examples noted are serial numbers C162997 and C163003 shipped to the U.S. Coast Guard at Curtis Bay, Maryland, on January 27, 1932. The letter “G” indicates government contract. And they were made in the early eighties, and came from the factory without the .22 conversion. But, I can't find much more about them.
