They were most likley longnose gar, Lepisosteus osseus. Ive been fishing metro for years, and the only species of gar ive seen back there are the longnose. Green and orange spoons worked well for salmon down 35 to 80 feet. Pier anglers were catching a few freshwater drum in the channel while casting spoons. St. Joe: Boat anglers were catching good numbers of Chinook salmon and a few lake trout.The water in the area was clear today and 63 degrees. It is a great boat for fishing/cruising in the bay, but things get a little hairy south of the Clinton River. I think 2005 will be my last fishing season with this boat.
