Yet at 800-1000 RPMs she was smooth as silk, and anything in excess of 1500 all the way to 5000 she didn't miss a beat. Look up underneath the edge of the flywheel and see if mark "a" on the flywheel is lined up with mark "b" on the timing plate base. That is full advanced. I don't see how your timing could be off if you never touched it. If this does not happen you have to adjust your cables. Another problem can be that the roller of the carb hits the cam to soon. This also increases the idle rpm.Had an ignition issue at end of last year and I replaced stator, timer base, powerpack and voltage regulator. Now, at idle forward it hovers around 650rpms which is great most of the time. However occasionally it dips down to 600rpms and wants to stall. No lean sneeze or anything this is not a carb issue.
