I'm not much of a mechanic. At the price of an oil change vs parts I learned to do the oil on my Gold Wing and save bucks every time. Now for the VTX. How do I get the bike level without buying a very expensive contraption? Thank you for your ideas.
The owners manual for the 1300C suggests replacing coolant at 24K. I took the advice of other members on this board and downloaded the service manual. You might consider that as well. Honda usually recommends 3 weights: 10w40 for all temps, 10w30 OK for cold winters, and 20w50 OK for hot summers. If that's the case with your bike, you should be able to run Mobil 1 "red cap". The 10W-40 should provide great protection all year round. The first number in the case of your car 0W-30 is just an emphirical number and is only true till the engine warms up then it is a 30 weight oil. If you look at the VTX 1300 owners manual on page 81 you will see Honda recommends 10W-40 for the best coverage.I have seen a couple of posts saying" do not change the Final Drive oil until 24,000 miles.
